Regular Library hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
We're located across Angels Creek from Murphys Park. Our parking lot can be accessed from Algiers Street.
Murphys Library, built by community volunteers in 1994, is a branch of the Calaveras County library system. It is staffed largely by volunteers trained to help you find the books and information you're looking for. Our electronic card catalog links the Murphys branch to the collection at the Central Library in San Andreas as well as to all the other branches of the county library system. In addition, the county's participation in the Interlibrary Loan System provides access to the collections of other many other libraries, both in California and across the country. There is a fee of $3.50 for Interlibrary Loan books.
Our collection comprises thousands of volumes of fiction, nonfiction, and children's books, including juvenile and young adult reading. We also have audio books DVD's and VHS tapes. In addition, our fiction subcategories offer large-print books, science fiction, westerns, and mysteries. Of special interest is our collection of bilingual Spanish-English books for those learning English as a second language. To keep our collection current and fresh we receive books and other materials from the central library on a regular basis.
Murphys Library now has an three Internet-capable computers available to patrons. Both novices and experienced users are welcome. You can send and receive e-mail or just browse the World Wide Web. If you're new to the Internet, volunteers will help you log on and find your way around. Murphys Library is also offering a PC CLASS for Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft products.
Murphys Library also offers a community meeting room to our local non-profit organizations. Arrangements for using this room can be made by coming into the branch and filling out a request form. The availability of this service is during library open hours only, Tuesday through Saturday 11:00am to 4:00pm.
Murphys Library depends heavily on donations, and fund-raising activities for many of its capital expenditures and fixed operating expenses. Your patronage and financial support help keep the library open and enable us to continue expanding and improving its community services.
